KATE MARSDEN
Needlepoint tapestry
Kate’s creative journey started in the mid 1990s when she studied Fashion & Textiles at Lincoln College of Art. Following many years working in a corporate environment, she studied a range of short courses at a variety of institutions including Chelsea College of Art and Central Saint Martins.
For some time, Kate ran a successful design and illustration business (Made By Mrs M) specialising in fabric design and architectural illustration.
Her fine art practice has grown over recent years and became her main focus during the pandemic. She enjoys working with a range of materials including acrylics, printmaking and textiles, returning to her long term love for this media.
Kate’s work continues to evolve, retaining her aim to encourage people to see things differently and appreciate the beauty in the everyday.
Each tapestry in this collection is a one-of-a-kind, handmade piece of
textile art - crafted without a pattern, plan, or repetition. Created in the spirit of a diary, these works evolve intuitively, day by day, stitch by stitch, recording emotion, memory, and mood through texture, color, and form.
There is no draft, no duplication - only the quiet, meditative process of hand-stitching thought into fabric. Larger pieces may take up to six months to complete.
No two tapestries are alike. Each is a visual journal, telling a story that can’t be repeated.
